Jewish Encyclopedia (12 volumes, 1901-1906) was edited by
Moravian-born author and editor Isidore Singer (1859-1939), whose goal was to
create the first "encyclopedia of the history and mental evolution of the Jewish
race". The Web version is a full, unedited reproduction of the original, down
to the illustrations and photo captions. Hyperlinks within the transcribed entries
take visitors to related topics elsewhere in the encyclopedia. An available
